Editors Observation: The Members of Bishopville City Council have a big problem... who are they going to found to fill the Shoes and Uniform of the former popular Police Chief? In this job; size does not fit all.

Bishopville Police Chief John Ewing has announced his resignation from the department.
He said he is leaving for a new opportunity with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, where he started his law enforcement career. Ewing will supervise the Internal Affairs division at the department.
Ewing has been chief of the Bishopville Police Department for 5 years. Before that, he spent 10 years with Richland County.
“I thank the city of Bishopville and Lee County for accepting me and my wife into the community,” said Ewing.
In 2011, he won the The Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement.
Ewing did not say what his new role in Richland County will be, but said it was an offer he could not refuse.
Bishopville City Council will be tasked with naming an interim chief.
Ewing's resignation is effective June 21st.
