"... residents said the bypass must be built to prevent heavy trucks from rumbling down Main Street in Bishopville.
“It does create an unsafe environment for any pedestrians and for people getting out of their cars,”Lee County Economic Development Executive Director Jeff Burgess said. “Also, the city and the county have put a lot of money into re-developing (downtown Bishopville) and it’s just kind of a detriment to it.”
The official traffic count revealed that 600 trucks a day use Main Street, Burgess said.
“So that creates a lot of congestion and trouble on Main Street,” he said. “The other side of that is, a bypass would open up acreage for industrial development...”"
