The 33rd Annual Lee County Cotton Festival - September 17 and 18, 2010 in Bishopville, South Carolina

Celebrating 'King Cotton" Harvest

The Lee County Cotton Festival is kicking off its 33rd year of family fun for everyone Friday, September 17th, 2010 beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting until 11 p.m..

This years festival will feature the services of Palmetto Amusements and Pleasant Valley Inflatables, so there will be multiple carnival rides and adventures for children and adults, vendors galore featuring food and crafts and even an airbrush tattoo artist for the bold and adventuresome.

Folks may want to bring their clodhoppers for there definitely will be street dancing featuring live music, and of course the Cotton Festival Parade all in celebration of the harvest of "king cotton," which for years, has been the county's primary crop!

This year well known and admired WIS TV personality Joe Pinner, known also for his alter ego Mr. Knozit, will serve as the parade's Grand Marshall. The parade starts at 2 p.m.

Special note: Mr. Pinner joined WIS TV  May 27, 1963 and the renowned "Mr. Knozit" show was born. If you were ever on the Mr. Knozit show from 1963 through 2000 you are invited to ride on the float with him; so bring your kids, grandkids and great-grandkids... it will be a great experience for all and all are encouraged to reunite with Mr. Knozit on the Grand Marshall's float.

Beginning at 7pm and lasting until 11pm, Friday's Street Dance will feature the rock, blues, jazz and reggae sounds of Lucia & Levi

"...Lucia Lexington and Levi Byrd have been performing their brand of musical entertainment together for over 20 years.

You may have seen them as a Duo or fronting their band
The Little Zippers. They play festivals, resorts, bars and even Caribbean cruises..."

If you prefer a political edge to your music then you will not want to miss Saturday's Street Dance, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., featuring Rya Fraser and the Guruv's and their renditions of jam, reggae, and rock. You can also find the Guruv's on Facebook
