Cecil Garvin

BISHOPVILLE

Cecil Garvin, 95, widower of Leona Lavender Garvin, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at a local nursing facility.

Born in Wagener, he was a son of the late Ottice Garvin and the late Annie Lou Miller Garvin. Mr. Garvin was a member of Bishopville First Baptist Church. He retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, was a member and Past Post Commander of American Legion Post 29, and a Mason. Mr. Garvin was a U.S. Marine veteran of World War II.

Survivors include one son, Richard Garvin (Linda) of Easley; one daughter, Marilyn Adams (Jerry) of Bishopville; two brothers, Ottice Garvin, Jr. of Wagener, and Frank Abbott Garvin (Eddie Lou) of Hanahan; one sister, Mabel Crawford of Wagener; three grandsons, Rev. Darren Adams (Wava), Brian Adams (Lindsay), and Ricky Garvin; two granddaughters, Lori Howell (Asher), and Jenny Garvin; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, O’Connell Garvin, Earl Garvin, and Quincy Garvin.

A private graveside service will be held in the Wagener City Cemetery with the Rev. Darren Adams officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, 319 Kiwanis Place, Bishopville.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of the arrangements.
